Sunday Soundbite

Our Relief Society lesson this week was taught by Robin Carbajal.  The lesson was from the George Albert Smith Manual - #7 The Immortality of the Soul.

We discussed how "our life is eternal, and this knowledge helps us make correct choices and comforts us in times of mourning."

Here are the topics that we studied from the lesson.

1. We lived as spirits before we came to earth, and our spirits will continue living after we die.
2. Our purpose here on earth is to prepare ourselves to live with our Heavenly Father.
3. During this life we should seek after those things that are of eternal worth.
4. Because of Jesus Christ, we will be resurrected.
5. Our knowledge of the immortality of the soul inspires, encourages, and comforts us.

At the end of the lesson there is a quote that says, "To you who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ, this story is a simple one, but it is true. There are sacred volumes of scripture that our Heavenly Father has placed within our reach, teaching us that we live eternally. … The Lord has given us this information in great plainness, and from the depths of my heart I thank him for the knowledge that he has given us, that those who mourn may be comforted and that we ourselves may understand our purpose in being here. If those who have passed on could speak to us, they would say, “Press on, press on, for the goal that will bring us eternal happiness together.” Do the things the Lord would have you do, and you will not miss anything that is worth while; but on the contrary you will be continually laying up treasures in heaven where moth and rust cannot corrupt or thieves break through and steal. [See Matthew 6:19–20.]"
