A Christ-Centered Christmas

Our monthly Relief Society activity was based on the book "A Christ-Centered Christmas" by Emily Freeman.  Each figure in the nativity represented one way we can make Christmas more about Christ.  It was a wonderful night we shared with our fellow sisters from the Prosper 1st Ward!

Lori Nielsen talked about Mary.  Mary reminds us that we need to find a moment to ponder the events of that sacred night in Bethlehem.  In that moment we celebrate the miracle of Christ's birth, and the gift that Heaven gave. 

Jenny Frederick talked about Joseph.  He represents the desires of our hearts.  He reminds us of the secret acts of Christmas kindness given with sacrifice and love.

The angel was next.  Susan Wilson shared how the angel embodies a heart that runneth over with the good tidings and great joy of the season.  The good things to come should fill our hearts with warmth and overflowing.  Music is a great way to fill our hearts with this warmth.  Sis. Wilson made CDs of accompaniment for Christmas songs.

Tosha Mack talked about the shepherds.  Shepherds symbolizes a testimony within, an inner conviction that we have come to know Christ.  The shepherd is a reminder for us to come closer to the Lord with haste.

Cheri Palsson shared her thoughts about the wise men.  They exemplify the journey each of us takes as we seek the Lord.  They remind us that as we draw closer to Him, we will be led to continue our journey another way.

Stephanie Lowery talked about the lamb.  She played a song she wrote about the Lord's tender mercies.  The lamb reminds us to prepare our hearts to recognize the hand of the Lord in our life and to give thanks.

Leigh Ann Thode shared her thoughts about the Christ child.  She and her family wrap gifts for Christ to put under the tree.  The Christ child reminds us to offer a gift to the Lord this Christmas season: A gift based on the true work of Christmas.

After the inspiring thoughts of our speakers, we all headed to the cultural hall for crafts, refreshments, and visiting!  Some of us put together nativity kits and others did a Christmas questions jar.  Each nativity kit came with this nativity play

At the end of the night every sister was given a candle and list of scriptures to use as an advent.  Every night you light the candle and read the coordinating scripture.  Click here for a copy of the advent scripture list.
