How well do you know Susan Wilson?

The Facts

•  She was born in Southern California and moved to Provo, Utah when she was 15.
• She has an older sister, a younger sister, and a brother. She lost a brother and his family in a plane crash several years ago.
• She graduated from Brigham Young University, receiving her bachelor’s degree when her husband received his MBA. She says, “We wanted to walk through graduation together in our caps and gowns, but our first child was born three days before graduation, and I had to be content with only pictures.”
• She met her husband Boyd at BYU, where he was obtaining a degree in Civil Engineering and she was a student secretary in the Civil Engineering Department. They married in the Salt Lake Temple and are celebrating their 40^th anniversary this year!
• She has devoted 36 years to being a full-time mother, rearing eight children: two daughters and six sons. All save one are married with their own families, and they contribute meaningfully not only by raising Susan's 21 grandchildren, but also by working in such fields as music, dance, and cultural arts; medicine and dentistry; accounting and information systems; and even rocket science. • Susan’s hobbies include reading, playing the piano, singing and sewing.
• She is a history buff, particularly American history and Church history.
• She currently works in the front office of McKinney Pediatric Dentistry.
• She has been to Wales.*
• One of her daughters is our very own Lisa Schaack.

Susan toured parts of Europe, specifically Wales, with a small choir when she was 15. They attended an international music festival and then traveled around the country for over a month, giving concerts and staying in the homes of local residents.

What is a favorite family vacation?

“Our family's favorite vacation spot has become Nauvoo, Illinois. Our oldest son-in-law was very involved in the development of the Nauvoo Pageant during all the years he was working on a PhD at Michigan State. Because they spent every summer of those years living in Nauvoo, and because our family has been so spread out around the country while our children have been in various graduate schools, many of us would meet up in Nauvoo for a couple of weeks in the summers to have some family fun together. We love the spirit of Nauvoo and have many choice family memories there.”
