We had a fantastic lesson taught by Tracey Nell on Sunday from the George Albert Smith manual entitled "Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself."
President J. Reuben Clark Jr., one of his counselors in the First Presidency, said of George Albert Smith: “His real name was Love. … He gave his love to everyone he met. He gave his love to all whom he did not meet.” This is an example of how we all should be - loving our fellow brothers and sisters no matter who they may be.
In fact we read in Matthew 22:37-40, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, this is the first and great commandment.
“And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
One of our classroom discussions centered around the importance of loving everyone - not just those whom we find easy to love. If we find ourselves having a difficult time getting along with or understanding someone - that is the person we should be striving to show love to and serve the most. Through our service and prayers and kindness we will come closer to experiencing true charity - the pure love of Christ - than by any other means.
"What a happy world it would be if men everywhere recognized their fellowmen as brothers and sisters, and then followed that up by loving their neighbors as themselves."
So sisters - let's get to it!
