| GENERAL CONFERENCE |
In our combined 5th Sunday presentation we were encouraged to prepare for General Conference.
Bishop Woodrum showed this clip (General Conference Has Something for You) taken from a talk by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland. He encouraged our ward family to listen for answers to our individual prayers and concerns through the talks given at General Conference.
Brother Argyle, from the Stake High Council, shared an example of how we could listen to the conference talks. He recalled how he had learned to divide note paper into two columns. In one column he listed important things he heard spoken in the talks given. In the other column, he wrote the impressions he felt during those same talks. It was a powerful experience in recognizing the things that the Lord would have us hear a personal message, even through a message delivered to many.
Brother Brown acknowledged that there is a new option available for viewing the Saturday evening Priesthood Session. This can now be watched live in our homes or over the Internet as with the other sessions. He encouraged, however, the brethren to come and be unified with other Priesthood holders at the church. There is something special about gathering together for this occasion that blesses the brethren.
Sister Sallaway shared some great ideas for helping to prepare our children for General Conference. She encouraged us to take advantage of the Activities for Children found on the church website. There are packets and games already prepared to help make conference interactive for all ages. She also shared a few things she has done in her home that may be fun to try. Her kids love to make a General Conference Menu where everyone gets to choose a favorite food that mom will make. She also created a conference basket filled with new, inexpensive dollar store toys that the kids can enjoy while listening to conference. There is a two minute Conference Center Tour led by an eight-year-old that gives a fun perspective of what goes on behind the scenes. Lastly, she enjoyed reading and learning about the lives of the prophets and apostles. Meet Today's Prophets and Apostles helps us make personal connections with the leaders who will soon speak to us.
General Conference is this Saturday and Sunday, October 5th and 6th. Enjoy this special opportunity to listen to living prophets and apostles with your family this coming weekend.
