Tricia Biggs gave
our lesson today from a talk given by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf titled,
"Lord, is it I?" This talk was
given at the October 2014 Priesthood Session.
Sister Biggs shared
highlights from this talk such as
the parable of the Dandelion, the Savior's story of the mote and the beam, as well as a story regarding a ward
in which members appeared on the outside to be doing well, but internally they
were not in alignment with the Savior
and his commandments. She shared this
quote from President Uchtdorf, "Is your heart set on the convenient things
of this world, or is it focused on the teachings of the diligent Jesus Christ?" “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Does the Spirit of God dwell in your hearts?
Are you “rooted and grounded” in the love of God and of your fellowmen? Do you
devote sufficient time and creativity to bringing happiness to your marriage
and family? Do you give your energies to the sublime goal of comprehending and
living “the breadth, and length, and depth, and height” of the restored gospel
of Jesus Christ?"
Sisters shared how
they have tried to do those things that keep them close to the spirit. Some of
these thoughts were:
- Making a list of the spiritual things that need to be done everyday and then noting each night what was accomplished. That way you can focus on what you did do that day as opposed to what you did not get done.
- Listen to a General Conference talk each day.
- Making time in the morning, before the day gets busy, to exercise, study your scriptures, and pray.
