Sunday Soundbite

The presidency message this month was taught by Kara Schofield. In coordination with the youth topic for the month, she presented a lesson on Covenants and Ordinances.  She began her lesson by sharing four words spoken by her father as he drove her and other young women to the Washington D.C. temple.  As Kara remembers, the conversation in the car on the way to the temple had gone down an inappropriate path.  Her father, the Bishop at the time, simply said, "elevate your thoughts, girls."  They were on their way to perform sacred ordinances for others and he wanted them to be prepared.

The threefold mission of the church is to:
Perfect the Saints
Proclaim the Gospel
Redeem the Dead
Sister Schofield illustrated that all of these missions have the purpose of helping everyone gain the covenants and ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Receiving the covenants and ordinances of the Gospel is a way for us to come to know God.  They become a pathway to return to Him and a way for us to "elevate our thoughts" to remember our eternal purposes here on earth.
