Sheri Lloyd gave the presidency message this month in Relief Society. In keeping with the monthly theme that the youth are studying, she focused her thoughts on prophets and revelation. Sister Lloyd recalled the assignment from a religion class at BYU where the students were expected to dive into the conference talks...to really learn from them.
As a little assignment, each sister was given a card to write down a challenge that she faces. Then, we were encouraged to search the conference talks for answers/guidance. Reminding us that Heavenly Father speaks to us through his prophets.
The sisters shared how they teach their families to see the importance of General Conference:
- Talking with parents (far away) about their favorite talks.
- Make a goal to read a conference talk daily.
- Share with children answers that have come while listening to conference.
- FHE - share a quote from a conference talk (modern day scripture) each week.
- Assign kids to teach FHE from a conference talk.
- Have conference on all over the house so they can't miss it; they know it's important.
- Share how general conference brings needed perspective so that we keep what is most important the priority in our lives.
How thankful we ought to be, how thankful we are, for a prophet to counsel us in words of divine wisdom as we walk our paths in these complex and difficult times. The solid assurance we carry in our hearts, the conviction that God will make His will known to His children through His recognized servants, is the real basis of our faith and activity.
We either have a prophet or we have nothing; and having a prophet, we have everything.
